TOOLS TO GET STARTED BULLET JOURNALING:
I wanted to share some of the best and most affordable tools available for bullet journalling.
- This notebook which is almost identical to the cult favorite and has raving reviews for a fraction of the cost!
- This pen that won’t bleed through the page and is great for inputting your dailies
- This Pen for art work and faux calligraphy
- These Markers for decorating and color coding your journal
- Stencils for making layouts quicker, or if you’re not handy at drawing
Also not necessary but this MEGA pack of PRINTABLES is amazing!
Obviously the only things that you need to get started is a notebook and pen and you will use them the most. However, the markers are useful for colour coding your journal and the stencils will save you time in creating beautiful layouts!

Now lets get started.
Bullet Journaling Hacks That Work:
Threading is basically linking similar pages together. Lets say you added this places to travel page in your bullet journal but then down the road you wanted to make another to add to the list. You would just write the page number that it continues with at the bottom of the page. For example, if this was on page 21 and it was continued on page 38 you would write 38 next to the 21. Super easy but something that a lot of people forget that you can do.
Post It Notes
I talked about post it notes in my previous post but it is so important, I felt like it needed to be said again. Do not waste your time drawing new layouts constantly if you don’t need to. For things like to do lists and grocery lists, use a post it note. Another sneaky place to use them is in weekly spreads with the month calendar on it. Each week as you draw out the new weekly layout, you can just slap a monthly calendar on it. Saving you valuable time.
Draw On Separate Paper
I love to doodle but drawing in a bullet journal just seems so permanent and risky. Take away that risk by drawing on a separate piece of paper. Cut it out and just tape the picture onto the layout afterwards. So simple!
Find a page that you use regularly with a DIY origami book mark. This is a fun and simple way to find your page quickly and to add some color to a page!
DIY Pen Holder
Hot glue an elastic ribbon to a binder clip for a sneaky place to put your pen. This makes traveling with your journal WAY easier! You aren’t using just any pen you can find and you will always know where your pen is! (unless you have kids – then who the heck knows where it will be!)
Or Use This Penholder Hack
Use A Traveller’s Notebook
If you have multiple bullet journals on the go then this hack is for you! Compile all of your books into a traveller’s notebook. You just loop the elastic through the centre of your bullet journal and the cover will hold them all in place.
Pick Up Some Graphite Transfer Paper For Easy Tracing
Draw stunning photos like this even if you suck at drawing. Print off a picture that you want to draw (coloring pages work well) and get some tracing paper off of amazon. There are a bunch of tutorials on YouTube showing how to do this. Essentially you trace the lines of the coloring page with the transfer paper between the coloring page and the Bullet Journal. As you press down on the lines of the coloring page, the transfer paper will leave the exact drawing in your Bullet Journal. This is a super easy way to create gorgeous drawings.
Bullet Journal Calendex
I have seen the Calendex done two different ways. The first is you use this page to write page numbers that relate to the specific days. So a giant index that is date specific.
The other way is to use this for planning into the future, birthdays, important appointments, etc. and see your year at a glance.
Flip Out Page
Anything that you flip back to regularly to reference, should be made into a flip out page. A school schedule, ideal weekly schedule, bullet journal key, etc. Turn them into flip out pages and you can reference them at any time, from any page.
Washi Tape in your Bullet Journal
Washi Tape makes hiding mistakes so easy! Just throw some random strips down on the mistake and its gone. Washi tape will also save you time since you can have a beautifully decorated page in less than five minutes by slapping some washi tape down.
Print or Cut Out Photos
Another easy thing to add to your pages that is often overlooked is photos. When you are drawing a weekly layout, leave a space to put some photos from the week. You will be so glad that you did!
